How Young Children Learn

Young children learn by doing.
They need active involvement with their physical and social environment.

Their self esteem is built by being listened to, being treated respectfully and being given some control over their daily lives.

Young children learn when they trust their environment.
When children feel safe, they can be ready to explore materials and try new experiences. They learn to trust by receiving consistent, responsive care.

Young children learn through exploration.
Children use all of their senses to learn about the things around them.

Young children learn through real, meaningful experiences.
Children can best learn language that is a useful part of their life, for example “Stop” and “Exit” signs are recognized early by young children.
